Dave's Pipe Stuff Test Location: LP
Orientation - Front Faces: N
Description - Age of Building: -- Roof Surface: Flat
Debris/Hazard: Winter freezing of down pipe

Dave's Pipe Stuff Test Site #   LP 1 installed Dec 2006
Purpose: one of 2 drains for a flat roof
Location: SE corner
Debris Condition: not a factor other than the amount of snow
Notes: Annual freezing of this one, but not the other, is the major complaint. -When I got there the elbow at the bottom of the down pipe was frozen almost solid . I have been thinking that this may be the source of the start of the problem (in several other cases as well) so I inserted only a four foot length up from the bottom and through the elbow. This will test the theory that if a problem never starts there won't be a problem. Good afternoon sun on a brick bldg. This is a corner lot on top of a hill and on the side of the street to take best advantage of morning and afternoon sun. The (currently) unknown factor is the amount of melting on this roof due to heat loss from the bldg. (The reason for the other drain not freezing may be that the roof is higher at that point and it handles less water.)

January 31, 2007 - No ice buildup so far.

February 23, 2007 - A fairly significant volume of water is flowing here. Dave's Pipe Stuff is keeping the end from becoming blocked solid...and the problem never starts.

March 9, 2007 ...waiting for fresh raw material.
